Ontario Porsche Driver Charged for Towing a Hot Tub with a Shifty Homemade Contraption

We've all tried transporting something with our car, truck, or SUV that maybe didn't quite fit as well as it should have, but this Porsche driver decided to turn up the heat by transporting a hot tub in their hatchback and catching all kinds of attention from the local constabulary.

It happened earlier this week in Woodstock, Ont., where police pulled over what looks to be a Porsche 968 carting (pardon the pun) a full-size hot tub on a homemade trailer attached through the hatch.

We say homemade trailer, but really this looks like it's a dolly that you'd use to carry a fridge into your house, sitting on some 2x4s that are attached to a frame in the back of the Porsche. And again, we use "attached" loosely. Take a look at the photos and you'll see why we're having some trouble describing the contraption

The town police service said that they located the improvised rig after getting plenty of calls from worried locals. The 54-year-old driver was charged with careless driving as a result. Constable Marco D’Annibale reminds drivers that "had this hot tub became unattached from the homemade trailer that it was being towed on, would have caused serious damage and injury to anyone in its path."

If you need to tow, there's nothing stopping you from doing it with your car, except that you need to use an actual trailer, one with plates, registration, and insurance. And a hitch. If you don't have a trailer, then you're better off renting a truck or paying for delivery. Either one will probably cost less than this ticket and the insurance rates that come with. And don't forget to strap your stuff down, no matter what you haul or haul with.
