2022 Polestar 2 Offers New Base Model, Dropping Price Dramatically

Pricing for the 2022 Polestar 2 electric vehicle (EV) has just been revealed, along with a new single-motor model that offers the longest range of the lineup as well as the lowest price. The 2022 Polestar 2 will start from $49,900 and qualifies for EV incentives in Quebec and B.C.

The new single-motor model makes 231 hp and drives just the front wheels. This output is a little more than half of the 408 hp that the dual-motor, all-wheel drive version offers. With the single-motor model, the Polestar 2 offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 426 km, 26 more than the dual-motor Long Range version offers.

Also offered for 2022 is a new heat pump. Polestar says that the pump can boost range up to 10 per cent in certain cold climate conditions. A heat pump to control the cabin climate is, much like the kind found in homes, more efficient than an electric heater grid used in the standard Polestar 2.

The Polestar 2 will also be offered with three option packs, allowing buyers to pick their options for the first time on this model. A Plus Pack for $5,500 adds that mechanical heat pump and comes with a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon audio system, WeaveTech vegan upholstery, and interior illumination. A $4,500 Pilot Pack adds driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist, blind spot information, cross-traffic alert, 360-degree camera, and more advanced safety features.

Lastly, a Performance Pack is $6,000 and available only on the Long Range Dual Motor model offering an adjustable Ohlins suspension, 20-inch forged alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, and Polestar "Swedish gold" detailing. Single options include a Nappa leather interior, unique wheels, and a tow bar.

Polestar expects deliveries of the model to start in late fall, but customers are able to order their cars now.
