2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 Priced Close to Gas Equivalent

Mercedes-Benz is planning for its electric flagship sedan to arrive at Canadian dealers this year. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic will offer 516 hp, an estimated range of around 700 km, and will cost just $1,300 more than the standard gasoline-powered S580 4Matic sedan.

An all-new vehicle built on an all-new electric vehicle architecture, the EQS 580 is unlike any S-Class to come before. It starts with styling that is completely different from that of gas-powered Benzes and extends to the 56-inch Hyperscreen-equipped interior that comes loaded with tech.

All driver assistance features will be included as standard on the EQS, as will a panoramic glass roof and wireless device charging. A Burmester surround sound system is also standard. An EQ-specific navigation system will help incorporate charging into route planning. The EQS will also offer the ability to store up to seven driver profiles, each allowing around 800 different settings to be captured for each of those drivers including seating and climate settings.

Options will include massaging front seats with rapid heating and ventilation, rear-axle steering to shrink the turning circle and assist high-speed stability, and head-up display in the Premium package. An Executive Rear Seating Package will add the climate comfort seats for rear passengers along with an entertainment system, neck warmer, and other comforts for chauffeured passengers. AMG styling packages will also be available.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 will start from $144,200. Mercedes-Benz says it will arrive on sale at dealers "in late 2021."
