2022 Subaru Forester Gets Updated Tech, Pricing Announced

Subaru has given the Forester an update for 2022 that includes the latest generation of the brand's safety technology as well as a redesign for the front and rear of the crossover. Also new for 2022 is a new Wilderness trim level, intended to give the Forester more off-road capability along with a more rugged appearance.

The refresh to the 2022 Subaru Forester isn't a massive one, but it  helps to freshen the look of the crossover. A new bar, chrome on top trims, bisects the grille at a lower level than last year's model, while the headlights have become more angular and have a large cut-out near the grille. New fog light openings complete the look at the nose while the rear sees similar detail changes.

Now in its fourth generation, Subaru's EyeSight safety suite adds an electric brake booster for improved emergency braking performance. It has pre-collision braking and throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and lane centring, standard on all models. Higher spec trims with side/rear vehicle detection have added Emergency Automatic Steering for 2022, which helps the driver avoid low-speed collisions.

The new Wilderness trim, first seen on the Outback, sits two from the top of Forester's seven trim grades. It adds new gear ratios for the CVT and a new oil cooler to improve off-road driving and raise max towing. The suspension gets a taller ride height and off-road tuning, with unique wheels wearing Yokohama all-terrain tires. A front-view camera, underbody skid plates, and a high-capacity roof rack round out the major changes, with extra cladding, all-weather seat fabric, and anodized copper accents as the cosmetic features.

The 2022 Subaru Forester hits dealers this winter, starting from $29,495. That's a $500 increase from 2021.
