Pricing for 2022 Volvo C40 EV Announced, Books Open for Reservations

Volvo has just announced pricing for its all-new electric vehicle (EV). The 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge is the first Volvo designed from the ground up to be fully electric as well as the first to feature a leather-free cabin. Reservations are open now, and prices for the EV start at $72,600.

The Volvo C40 is driven by two electric motors, one up front and one in the rear, making a combined 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque. That's good for a 4.7-second run to 100 km/h while a 78-kWh battery offers an estimated 360 km of range. A 10 to 80 per cent charge is expected to take 33 minutes.

Reservations for the "crossover coupe" are open now, with customers able to secure a spot with a $500 deposit online or at their local retailer. Deliveries of the cars are planned to start in Canada in the spring, while vehicle production starts soon in Belgium.

Just one trim will be offered at launch, the loaded Ultimate that includes Volvo's Android operating system with Google Assistant, Maps, and Play built-in. It will have a fixed panoramic roof, LED lighting, Harman Kardon audio, as well as a 360 surround-view camera and Pilot Assist driver assistance.

Volvo says it plans to let customers pick from pre-configured vehicles that are ready for order rather than a more traditional large in-store inventory. Volvo Cars Canada's Managing Director Matt Girgis calls it "a streamlining of the purchase process." Also part of the process will be a package that includes four years or 80,000 km of complimentary service and wear coverage.
