For 2022, Mazda's compact sedan and hatchback, the Mazda3 and Mazda3 Sport, get a new paint colour for 2022 as well as more availability of the brand's Polymetal Grey. Buyers looking at GT-trim cars will also see some features moved down from last year's GT Premium package including wiper de-icing and HomeLink controls.
Mazda will continue to offer the 3 and Mazda3 Sport (Mazda-speak for hatchback) with one 2.0L and two 2.5L four-cylinder engines. The base 2.0L is available on the GX trim only and offers 155 hp and 150 lb-ft. A naturally aspirated 2.5L model with 186 hp and 186 lb-ft comes with the GS and GT trims, and a turbocharged version is offered only on GT Turbo AWD cars that can make 250 hp on 93 octane gas along with 320 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual will be offered on the GX sedan and hatchback as well as the GS and GT hatches (in front-drive only), while all-wheel drive will be available on GS and GT trims of both body styles.
The GX trim includes a basic version of Mazda's i-Activsense driver assistance suite including blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. Mazda Connected Services telemetry monitoring is offered free for two years and can be accessed through a MyMazda app. An 8.8-inch infotainment screen is standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GS trim adds radar cruise control, brake support front, pedestrian detection, and other driver aids. It also has heated mirrors, a heated leather wheel, and a rear seat armrest.
The GT trim adds Bose audio, satellite radio, navigation, and leather seats that are offered in black or red on the hatch and black, white, and red on the sedan. New GT features for 2022 include a wiper de-icer, frameless rearview mirror, HomeLink, auto-dimming driver's mirror, and satin chrome interior trim.
Platinum Quartz Metallic is the new paint colour, replacing Titanium Flash Mica. Mazda's Polymetal Grey, available only on the hatch last year, is now offered on the sedan and in more trim levels.
The 2022 Mazda3 starts from $21,200 for sedan ($150 more than last year) and $1,000 more for the hatch and hit dealers shortly.
