2022 Mazda CX-30 Gets Standard AWD

Mazda is giving the 2022 CX-30 crossover standard all-wheel drive and is adding a new Advanced Visibility package to GT-spec models. What the automaker isn't doing is raising the price. The 2022 model with AWD starts from $700 less than the current AWD GX version.

Along with i-Activ all-wheel drive, which can monitor weight distribution to shift power for driving dynamics as well as better traction, all CX-30 models get Mazda's torque-modulating G-Vectoring Control Plus system as well as Off-Road Traction Assist.

The standard engine is a 2.0L 155-hp four-cylinder, same as last year, paired with a six-speed automatic. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also included as are LED headlights and taillights.

GS models keep the 2.5L four-cylinder with 186 hp but gain the option of a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint. The trim has adaptive cruise control, smart brake support, pedestrian detection, and lane-keep assist as well as a leather-wrapped gearshift and steering wheel. A luxury package adds black or grey-beige leatherette seats.

The CX-30 GT's new Advanced Visibility Package adds 360-degree camera views for parking as well as front parking sensors. It also gets Traffic Jam Assist, which enhances radar cruise control by adding steering inputs at speeds under 65 km/h to help make driving in heavy traffic less stressful. Lastly, the GT Turbo model with the 250-hp 2.5L turbo under the hood now includes the Advanced Visibility Package.

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 arrives at dealers next month.
