BMW is using the stage at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to reveal two new versions of its iX crossover EV – including the M performance brand’s first-ever all-electric model – that will make their Canadian debuts in June 2022.
The 2023 BMW iX M60 is the new flagship of the iX lineup, slotting in above the xDrive50 model introduced last year. Helping it live up to its high-profile position is a powertrain good for 610 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, the latter figure being the highest-ever torque rating in a production BMW model. The iX M60 promises a zero-to-100-km/h sprint of 3.8 seconds, and an estimated driving range of 450 km.
BMW says the M60 is equipped with the most standard driver assistance features of any model in its lineup thanks to new sensor and software technology. It also features the iDrive 8 infotainment system, which is configured to work with the iX’s curved touchscreen to provide augmented reality functions and more natural voice controls. Other iX M60 standard features include a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound stereo, laser light headlights, passive keyless entry, and ventilated front seats.
At the other end of the 2023 BMW iX lineup is a new entry-level xDrive40 model making 322 hp and 465 lb-ft, which BMW says will move the car from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The company has not revealed what the xDrive40’s driving range will be; the more powerful xDrive50 promises at least 491 km, according to the company’s Natural Resources Canada energy consumption estimates.
Both new iX variants are set to arrive in Canada in June, when the xDrive40 will be priced to start at $79,990 and the M60 at $121,750.
