Maserati has just launched the all-new Grecale, a compact crossover aimed at an increasingly popular luxury segment. The 2023 Maserati Grecale will offer a 530-hp V6 and will soon become the brand's first all-electric SUV.
Driving excitement is a big part of the Maserati brand, so helping power the Grecale base model will be a 296-hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A Modena trim will boost the 48V mild-hybrid powertrain to 325 hp, but it's the Trofeo version that will get enthusiasts excited.
The Maserati Grecale Trofeo will offer a 523-hp 3.0L twin-turbo V6, an engine derived from the V6 used in the MC20 sports car but with small changes like a conventional wet sump oiling system instead of a race-ready dry sump system. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds is the result and a top speed of 285 km/h are the estimates from Maserati for the hot version of the crossover.
Maserati claims best-in-class interior space, and while it didn't announce dimensions, the company did say the front and rear seats will hold a 99th-percentile adult. The exterior is 4,846 mm long, which puts it between the Porsche Macan (the model with which it is more likely to compete) and the Porsche Cayenne.
The cabin will also introduce a new touch-based infotainment system running an Android operating system with natural speech controls. A 12.3-inch upper screen handles the entertainment part of the system while a smaller 8.8-inch screen sits below and controls the HVAC system and other secondary functions. Leather will be standard, with wood, carbon fibre, and other materials available.
The bodywork is what we've come to expect from Maserati: A wide grille with vertical chrome struts and large air intakes up front, with boomerangs hidden in the taillight design and portholes on the front fenders.
An electric model called the Grecale Folgore is expected to arrive a year after the gas model. This EV will come with a 105-kWh battery and use 400V tech, but Maserati isn't saying much more than that. The automaker will be applying that Folgore badge — Italian for Lightning — to all of its upcoming EVs as they arrive.
The 2023 Maserati Grecale is set to go on sale later this year with pricing to follow.
