2023 Ford F-150 Rattler Adds Off-Road Features to Entry-Level Truck

Ford has just launched another special edition of its F-150 pickup truck for 2023. This time, instead of a high-dollar add-on to a luxury trim, Ford is offering something more accessible. The 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler starts with an XL pickup and then adds loads of off-road-ready features and accessories, new graphics, and special interior accents.

Using the F-150 XL 4x4 as a base, Ford starts by adding the parts from its FX4 package to the truck. This includes skid plates to help protect the underside of the truck from off-road damage. It also comes with shock absorbers tuned for off-road use along with hill descent control for throttle control and braking on steep hills on the trail. Lastly, it adds an electronic locking differential in the rear to help the truck maintain traction in slippery conditions.

For the Rattler, Ford adds special 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires that are better for driving on trails. Helping the F-150 Rattler stand out, Ford has added a new dual exhaust system it says offers a "bold sound." Buyers will also get F-150 Rattler badging on the fender vents with rattlesnake-inspired graphics on the outside of the truck.

In addition to the new hardware, Ford has also changed up the interior using Onyx seats with burnished bronze accents as well as stitching that matches the Rattler's dashboard trim. Ford calls it "desert-inspired." The truck can be had painted in eight colours including Antimatter Blue and Rapid Red.

Starting with the XL trim level of the pickup should help keep pricing on the lower end of the F-150's range, though Ford hasn't announced those numbers yet. The 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler is set to go on sale this fall.
