The Chrysler Airflow Graphite Concept made its official debut at this week's New York International Auto Show, arriving as a precursor to the automaker's first production EV, which is set to arrive by 2025.
The Chrysler Airflow Graphite is described as an "alter ego," version of the original Airflow Concept, which the automaker presented at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year. This revised model features a Galaxy Black exterior, contrasting with the original model's white exterior, along with copper-accented 22-inch wheels and a large panoramic glass sunroof with a copper trim outline. The interior, described by Chrysler as being light and spacious, has also been re-imagined with Ice Grey upholstery and matching copper accents.
While only a show vehicle, the Chrysler Airflow Graphite gives us a sneak peek at Chrysler's future electric powertrains. This concept features two 150-kW electric motors (one mounted in the front and one out back), giving it all-wheel drive and an estimated output of around 400 horsepower. The automaker says the battery is "designed to achieve" up to 643 kilometres (400 miles) of range on a single charge, however, this is a very early preliminary estimate and may not be entirely indicative of the real-world range of future Chrysler EVs.
This concept also previews Chrysler's new so-called STLA Brain software platform, which will enable its future vehicles to receive over-the-air software updates. The STLA Brain platform will allow third-party software developers to create new apps and features for Chrysler vehicles and update them remotely. This tech will also enable AI-based applications, such as AI-operated navigation, along with e-commerce marketplace apps and in-vehicle payment services.
Chrysler will launch its first battery-electric vehicle in 2025, the American automaker says, and will slowly transition to an all-electric vehicle portfolio between now and 2028.
