The 2023 Subaru Legacy gets a refresh that gives it a new look and some added safety features. Behind the new front fascia, the all-wheel drive sedan will offer a new version of Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist system. It will also have upgraded smartphone connectivity and a GT trim with a sport suspension as part of a simplified lineup.
Its new nose makes the Legacy look more like its sibling, the Outback wagon. A much larger grille is bisected by a chrome trim strip (and red trim on the GT model), and there are revised fog light openings below the redesigned LED headlights.
Subaru's updated EyeSight system, already offered in the Outback and Forester, uses a new camera that can see a wider field down the road. Subaru says software updates let the system operate more smoothly and work in a wider range of conditions. The GT trim gets a more capable version of the system that can recognize pedestrians and cyclists earlier.
An updated 11.6-inch infotainment screen now has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. It offers navigation on higher trims along with Harman Kardon premium audio. What3Words, a new location-finding simplifying service, has been added to cars with this navigation system.
The 2023 Subaru Legacy will be offered in Touring, Limited, and new GT trims. Last year's base Convenience trim has been dropped, and GT offers the 260-hp 2.4L turbo four-cylinder in last year's Limited GT and Premier GT trims. All others will have a carryover 182-hp 2.5L flat-four. The new base model Touring makes heated seats, wiper de-icer, and full-circumference heated wheel standard equipment.
The GT model will also offer 18-inch wheels, dark grey trim, and dual exhaust, with a sport-tuned suspension to make it a more engaging drive. Inside, the GT will have alloy pedals, Nappa leather seats with ventilation up front, and a front-view camera.
The 2023 Subaru Legacy will arrive at dealers this fall, so expect pricing closer to the car's on-sale date.
