Super Sleek Electric Hyundai Ioniq 6 Sedan Debuts

Hyundai has debuted a new electric sedan called the Ioniq 6, which is the next model in its EV lineup. It's a super sleek four-door with a cocoon-like cabin, a new Hyundai logo, and a drag coefficient that beats just about anything on the road.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is inspired by the Prophecy EV concept car that was revealed back in 2019. Like that concept, the single curve running from the base of the windshield all the way to the tail is the main focal point of the design. The streamlined shape is incredibly slick through the air, and Hyundai says the drag coefficient is its lowest ever at just 0.21. The figure puts it as one of the most aerodynamically efficient production vehicles ever.

Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 will have Hyundai's "Parametric Pixel" lighting. More than 700 of the pixels are found in places like the head and tail lights, front sensors, and the third brake light. They're even in air vent garnishes inside the vehicle, one of the main focus points of the Ioniq family design.

The Ioniq 6 also has actual headlights with large pixel bulbs inside as an accent, not the main light.

Twin 12-inch screens are the focal point for the interior. Hyundai says that the control unit for the centre screen is designed and placed to help reduce driver distraction and "spur safe, intuitive driving." The cabin gets 64 colours of ambient lighting, and there are six dual-colour themes to help make you feel more relaxed inside the car.

Oddly, Hyundai has removed all buttons from the front doors. There is still a handle, but Hyundai says the change maximizes interior space and adds in-door storage.

The interior is trimmed with sustainable materials including recycled plastic seat fabrics, bio TPO skin dash, vegetable oil-derived paints, and carpets made from recycled fishing nets.

This is our look at the inside and outside of the Ioniq 6. For more, including the specs, features, and timing of the new EV, we'll have to wait until next month.
