EVs Dominate List of 2023 NACTOY Finalists

The nine finalists for the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards have been announced at the LA Auto Show.

The awards focus on new or significantly changed vehicles for the 2023 model year, and this year, 47 vehicles were eligible. NACTOY's 50 jurors are professional automotive journalists from Canada and the U.S., including AutoTrader editor-in-chief Jodi Lai, who have voted on the best vehicles in three categories.

For the North American Car of the Year, the finalists have been narrowed down to the Acura Integra, Genesis G80 EV, and Nissan Z.

The finalists in the North American Truck of the Year are the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Lordstown Endurance.

The finalists for the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year are the Cadillac Lyriq, Genesis GV60, and Kia EV6, which are all electric vehicles.

“Our nine finalists for 2023 represent a diverse cross-section of this year’s best new vehicles, ranging from sports cars to powerful pickups to three electric utility vehicles – which is the first time in our history that all three finalists in a specific category are battery-electric,” said NACTOY President Gary Witzenburg in a press release. “Our jurors drew on their deep industry expertise and unique testing and evaluation techniques to narrow the field from 26 semifinalists to three vehicles in each category, which include a record-breaking six electric vehicles."

The winners will be announced on Jan. 11, 2023 at a special event in Detroit.
