Mercedes-Benz is updating the GLE for 2024. Both the SUV and the GLE Coupe get style updates and Mercedes is adding new engine and off-road tech as well as its latest infotainment system.
The exterior changes aren't obvious, but more than enough to keep it fresh. There is a new grille with chrome horizontal louvres and a new chrome fin for the outer air intakes. The GLE also gets a new front bumper and updated headlights with a new running light signature. AMG line variants get a diamond grille pattern and AMG side sills and wheel arch cladding.
Inside, Mercedes-Benz has fitted its latest steering wheel. That means sensors on the wheel instead of buttons, with touch elements that let you control the centre and driver displays from the wheel. The air vent edging is now chrome instead of black, and it is real metal instead of plastic.
For 2024, the GLE gets the second generation of Mercedes-Benz's MBUX infotainment system. Displayed on a 12.3-inch centre screen (the dash is the same size), the system now has more interactive voice assistant controls. Some of the functions can even be activated without the "Hey Mercedes" command. Over-the-air updates will help keep the system fresh.
Mercedes-Benz has upgraded the towing and off-road features of the GLE, and the highlight of that is the standard "transparent hood" function. This uses the cameras and a composite view that lets you "see through" the hood on the centre screen, which is great for steep terrain as well as tight parking lots. The display shows more off-road-specific information, too. Towing for the GLE is now up to 3,500 kg, though the max tongue weight is just 140 kg.
The 2024 Mercedes GLE will come in 350 and 450 models. The former gets a 255-hp 2.0L turbo four-cylinder, the latter a 375-hp 3.0L inline-six turbo. Both have 48V mild hybrid electrification.
There will also be two Mercedes-AMG variants, the GLE 53 with a 429-hp inline-six and the GLE 63 S with a 603-hp 4.0L twin-turbo V8. These get similar design changes to the non-AMG models but with an AMG-specific twist. They will also have new standard equipment including MBUX augmented reality. The air suspension system has been tweaked with new software and a new setup to help increase the range between comfort and sport modes.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and GLE SUV are set to arrive at dealers late in the second quarter of this year. Pricing will come closer to its launch.
