Subaru today announced that the all-new 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV will go on sale across Canada in late spring at a starting price of $28,995 following its official Canadian debut on Friday at the Toronto auto show.
That entry-level MSRP is a big $4,000 jump over last year’s Crosstrek, much of which can be attributed to the elimination of the car’s six-speed manual transmission. Now, all versions come standard with an automatic CVT that was optional in 2023. To compare apples to apples, the 2024 Crosstrek Convenience is a not-insignificant $1,800 more than the outgoing Convenience CVT package.
The rest of the 2024 Crosstrek range includes Touring ($32,195), Onyx ($33,995), and Limited ($36,995) packages, all of which come with higher prices than their outgoing comparables. Sharp-eyed Subie fans will note that last year’s Sport package is gone, while Onyx is effectively a new name for the 2023 Outdoor model. As before, engine choices start with a 152-hp, 2.0L four-cylinder (Convenience and Touring trims) while Onyx and Limited get a punchier 2.5L with 182 hp.
The good news about the loss of the stick shift is that all Crosstrek models now come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight driver safety assist suite, which last year was bundled with the formerly optional CVT. Subaru has improved EyeSight to help it more quickly identify cyclists and pedestrians at intersections, while a new electric brake booster promises smoother automatic braking performance. Also, cars with the optional blind-spot/lane-keep/cross-traffic alert features gain a new automatic emergency steering function to better help avoid collisions.
Standard kit in the $28,995 Convenience package includes steering-responsive LED headlights, automatic high beams, heated seats, and a wiper de-icer. Dual-zone A/C – previously only available in the top Limited trim – is also now standard across the board and is designed to focus its heating and cooling efforts only on occupied seats, which Subaru says should help improve fuel economy.
Also new to the Crosstrek is Subaru’s 11.6-inch infotainment display, which will be included in higher-spec trims, though the automaker didn’t specify which ones. Cars with embedded navigation will support the what3words app that provides directions to any location, not just those with street addresses.
