The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class is getting a facelift.
The updated compact crossover will have a new nose along with a new steering wheel, 48-volt mild hybrid power, and improvements to its infotainment and driver's assistance packages. The brand is relying on subtle changes with this tall and upright offering, but the grille and front bumper are both new. AMG models will get updates of their own to freshen those ones, too. Inside the headlights, Mercedes has updated the lighting signature and made LED headlights standard. You'll find similar changes at the rear, including new LED designs inside the taillights.
For 2024, 10.25-inch instrument and infotainment screens are standard. The MBUX interface those screens use is also new, with Mercedes saying it has responses more tailored to the driver. It also has predictive algorithms that work to learn what climate, comfort, and other settings you often use at the same times. It will then suggest those settings to you pre-emptively.
The MBUX system adds some games as well. Sudoku, Pairs, and a quiz are available. The driver can play the games (when parked) using the dials and controls on the new steering wheel.
Mercedes says the 2024 GLB will not have wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The GLA gets these two features, but for the GLB Mercedes says it will be possible "in the future," likely as an over-the-air update.
The Parking package is upgraded to support perpendicular parking. It also offers surround-view cameras to help the driver see around the vehicle. Active Steering Control is new to the Driving Assistance package for 2024, and Mercedes says it will allow for "more comfortable control" from the lane-keeping assistant.
A 13-hp belt-driven 48-volt electric motor has been added to the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The motor adds some boost from a stop, but its real functions are to let the engine spend more time turned off when coasting and to make the ignition stop-start system come back on more smoothly.
Overall horsepower is unchanged, with the GLB 250 making 221 hp and the AMG GLB 35 putting out 302 hp.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 are expected to hit dealers in the first quarter of 2024. Expect pricing to be announced just before the vehicles start to arrive.
