Lamborghini Revuelto Debuts as a 1,000-HP Plug-In Hybrid

The first Lamborghini with a plug has just debuted. It's called the Lamborghini Revuelto, and it combines electric power with a screaming 6.5L V12, creating something we hope will be magical.

Besides being the first plug-in vehicle from the Italian supercar maker, the Revuelto is also the first series production Lamborghini to top 1,000 hp.

Lamborghini has put an electric motor on each of the front wheels, which saves it from needing to fit a driveshaft to the front axle.
The two front electric motors each output 147 hp, and there's a third one hooked up to the engine. They can't all be used to their maximum at the same time, however, because the 3.8-kWh battery can only handle enough current for 187 hp at a time.

When you're driving in town, the Revuelto will use the front motors to drive silently using electric power. It can also use the rear motor to enable electric AWD, but it isn't going to in most situations.

Lamborghini hasn't said how much electric range the car is expected to have, but it won't be much. Drivers can plug into an outlet to charge, but the V12 engine can also be used to charge the battery in about six minutes.

Yes, don't panic — there's still a V12 powering this supercar. Lamborghini's 6.5L V12 has been heavily revised and is now lighter. It makes 814 hp, giving the car a total of 1,001 horsepower.

Styling is typical of Lamborghini: wedges, creases, sharp lines, and dramatic lights. It's a car that will be noticed in any situation, and that's exactly what the company does.

The name is a bit strange, but it's not actually a nod to electric power. Revuelto is the name of a fighting bull from the 1880s, and Lambo often uses names of real bulls for its cars.

Lamborghini has listened to buyer needs and has ensured its new supercar has more headroom, legroom, and elbow room than the Aventador.

There is also a new 12.3-inch dash display with all the performance info you need. The centre screen is 8.4 inches, and the passenger gets a screen now, too.

The Revuelto will be Lamborghini's quickest and most powerful road car to date. The company promises a zero-to-200-km/h time that will rival the Bugatti Chiron at around seven seconds flat. Deliveries start later this year, so if you want one, you'd best hope your dealer has already called.
