Porsche debuted the mid-cycle refresh to the Cayenne at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in China. The updates to the 2024 Porsche Cayenne include new headlights, a new taillight layout, a revised rear bumper design, two massive digital screens for the driver and passenger front seats, four drivetrain versions, and an upgraded suspension.
Porsche also updated its second best-selling vehicle by giving the 2024 Cayenne a more aggressive front bumper design with three air inlets.
Following the tradition of getting design inspiration from motorsports, Porsche gave the 2024 Cayenne a new LED headlight layout from the Porsche 963 Le Mans car, which is also featured in the Porsche Taycan.
While the Matrix LED headlights are standard in the new Cayenne, Porsche also offers optional high-definition Matrix LED headlights. The HD Matrix has a capacity of 32,768 individually controllable pixels per headlight, providing a high-performance high beam that turns night into day at a distance of up to 600 metres and avoids blinding oncoming drivers.
At the rear, the Porsche 911 – which celebrates its 60th anniversary in September this year – influenced the Cayenne with a similar taillight bar design with the Porsche script lettering emblem badge, the Cayenne specification version in the middle of the trunk, and the licence plate integrated into the rear bumper.
Inside, the Cayenne grabs attention with the new 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, which the German company calls the Porsche Driver Experience. The 12.3-inch central display touchscreen brings enhanced functions for the infotainment, such as the Sport Chrono App, an application that the driver can use to record vehicle data, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
On the front passenger side, there is an optional 10.9-inch display. This additional touchscreen allows the front passenger to stream videos, operate the navigation system, and make phone calls.
The 2024 Porsche Cayenne will be available with four powertrains in Canada. The 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo replaces the previous V6 engine in the new Cayenne S, generating 468 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, 34 hp and 37 lb-ft more compared to its predecessor.
With this engine configuration, the Cayenne and the SUV coupé variation can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.7 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 273 km/h.
With the Cayenne E-Hybrid, Porsche pairs a six-cylinder engine with a new electric motor, producing 134 more horsepower than the previous version. Now, the total system output increases to 468 hp.
And, focusing on efficiency, the high-voltage battery capacity was boosted from 17.9 kWh to 25.9 kWh. According to Porsche, a new 9.6-kW onboard charger now “reduces the charging time at an appropriate power source to less than two and a half hours.”
The sublime Turbo GT coupé sits on top of the Cayenne lineup with a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that delivers 650 hp, an impressive 3.3-second zero-to-100-km/h time, and a top speed of 305 km/h.
With all those performance numbers, the Porsche Cayenne has to handle precisely, so the German company has a new range of 20, 21, and 22-inch wheels and two new suspension setups.
The standard steel spring suspension, which includes the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, has a new set of shock absorbers with two-valve technology that allows "optimized performance in all driving situations.” The PASM provides a better ride quality at a slow speed in the city and diminishes body roll movement.
Porsche also offers a new adaptive air suspension with two-chamber and two-valve technology. This suspension tech translates into more driving engagement in different modes between Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus.
Regarding standard features, Porsche will include the Air Quality System that filters pollutants from the air in the interior through an ionizer with a fine dust sensor, front and rear Park Assist, and a smartphone tray with inductive charging at up to 15 watts.
In Canada, the price starts with the base model Cayenne at $89,800 and the base Coupé at $95,400.
The Cayenne E-Hybrid begins at $104,800 (the Coupé is $4,600 more), the Cayenne S initiates at $107,500 (the Coupé from $114,600), and at the top of the line, the Cayenne Turbo GT model starts from $218,300.
Cayenne customers can order their vehicle now; delivery is expected in mid-summer 2023.
