Land Rover has just debuted a refreshed Discovery Sport. The compact crossover gets new over-the-air software update capability, a new curved glass infotainment screen, and a host of new camera upgrades for on- and off-road driving.
There are some slight exterior upgrades, but you'd be hard-pressed to spot them. Dynamic models get a contrast roof and gloss black exterior accents and some new wheels. A couple of new paint finishes wrap up the changes.
The changes to the cabin air system have our attention, especially with this summer's wildfire smoke. The Discovery Sport now has Cabin Air Purification Plus, which filters the air coming into the cabin to reduce the amount of harmful particulates inside. The system also has carbon dioxide management and uses tech that the automaker says can "combat pathogens and help significantly reduce odours, bacteria, and allergens." You can also monitor air quality on the dash display.
A new 11.4-inch curved dash touchscreen sits between the driver and front passenger. It uses Land Rover's latest infotainment system interface and the company says 90 per cent of functions can be accessed within two taps of the home screen. Key functions, like navigation, volume, and climate, are permanently on the main screen's sidebar.
The system also includes the wireless version of Apple CarPlay and the wired version of Android Auto. Amazon Alexa is included, and wireless device charging is standard.
For 2024, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has some other small cosmetic changes that include a new gear shifter and a three-spoke steering wheel. A new recycled polyester Suedecloth material gives buyers a leather-free cabin choice.
Lastly, the new camera suite. The Discovery Sport offers 3D surround camera views as well as ClearSight Ground View. The latter lets drivers see, virtually, through the dashboard of the vehicle to spot obstacles on the trail. A ClearSight Rear View Mirror does the same out the back using a camera mounted to the tailgate.
The 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport in Canada will offer a 246-hp turbocharged four-cylinder and nine-speed automatic badged P250. Pricing starts from $64,050 and dealers are taking orders now.
