It’s a big day for the all-electric Macan, as Porsche is doubling the size of the model’s lineup and adding a new off-road package to entice customers.
The automaker has taken the wraps off a new rear-wheel-drive entry-level model and the medium-spicy 4S trim. The former eschews a front motor, making it the least powerful option in the lineup with up to 355 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque when launch control is enabled – down nearly 50 horses from the Macan 4 (the least powerful trim level unveiled at launch, earlier this year), which makes 402 hp.
However, the elimination of the front motor cuts 243 pounds (110 kg) from the vehicle, which makes it more agile, and means it can reach 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, just half a second slower than the Macan 4.
Meanwhile, the new Macan 4S ups the ante by offering up to 509 hp during overboost (442 hp for longer periods), which means the model can reach 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. In addition, the new trim benefits from adaptive air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and optional rear-axle steering.
Range ratings for the new trim levels have not yet been revealed, but the 100 kWh battery packs can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed 21 minutes. The top trim in the lineup remains the Macan Turbo, which was introduced at launch, and makes up to 630 hp, allowing it to reach highway speeds in just 3.3 seconds.
Off-Road Bona Fides
Regardless of which Macan EV buyers opt for, they will be able to add the off-road design package to their crossover. The option adds a front bumper designed to improve the Macan’s approach angle to 17.5 degrees, and increases ground clearance by 10 mm to 225 mm (in the standard air suspension’s highest setting). In addition, the front bumper, side skirts, diffuser panel, roof rails, and 21-inch off-road design wheels can be painted Vesuvius Grey (or body-colour).
The two new Macan trim levels are now available to order from Porsche Canada. The RWD Macan starts at $94,900, while the Macan 4S is offered with an MSRP of $106,900. The previously unveiled Macan 4 starts at $99,300 and the Macan Turbo carries a starting price of $125,300.
