The Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) isn't the highest profile auto show in the annual circuit of new vehicle expositions, but it does hold the distinction of being the first show held in Canada every year, and the first place Canadians can see some of the newest cars and trucks and concepts up close and personal.
This year marks the 48th edition of the MIAS, so it's fitting there are not only 48 vehicles making their Canadian auto show premieres here, along with two North American debuts.
It's not all practical crossovers and sensible sedans, here, though. The show includes the usual selection of exotics including the Pagani Huayra, a $2.2-million supercar that has appeared in numerous video games.

The show opens January 15 and continues until January 24. Doors open at 10:00am and close at 9:30pm, except for the 24th when they close at 6:00pm. Tickets are $16 for adults and $13 for students and seniors. Children between 6 to 12 years old can get in for $6 while children 5 and under are granted admissions for free. The Pagani Huayra is an Italian supercar powered by a Mercedes-AMG V12 engine.
Mercedes-Benz said Happy New Year with one of this year's 2016 reveals, of its C 300 d 4MATIC station wagon ('d' is for diesel, 4MATIC is Benz' all-wheel drive system), a car introduced last year in Europe, but which is now exclusive to the brand's Canadian lineup in North America.
Subaru staged the North America reveal of its Impreza hatchback concept, a sharp-looking car that previews what we can expect the next generation of this compact car to look like.
The latest generation of Audi's A4 compact sports sharp new styling inspired by the brand's recent concept cars.
The Audi S8 Plus is an updated version of its flagship performance sedan that boasts 605 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

Buick is showing Montrealers its Avenir concept, a gorgeous sedan whose styling informs the forthcoming LaCrosse sedan. While not as flamboyant as the Buick Avista concept shown in Detroit, we hope it also signals the future addition of a full-size flagship model.
From Cadillac comes the XT5, a new mid-size crossover and replacement for the SRX that wears the brand's new styling language.
Chevrolet brought four new models to Montreal, the highlight being the all-new Camaro. It might get the most eyeballs...
... but the other three cars are no less significant: there's the Spark subcompact, which now boasts a sub-$10,000 starting price...
... the Cruze compact sedan, wearing slick new styling and powered by a new 1.4L turbocharged engine...
... and the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu family sedan, notable for being both larger and lighter than the car it replaces.
Next down the list is Ferrari, whose 488 GTB is the Italian automaker's first turbocharged model since the F40 introduced of the late 1980s.
Fiat, another Italian brand, had a sports car of its own to show: the 124 Spider is a good-looking roadster based on the Mazda MX-5, but powered by Fiat's own MultiAir turbocharged engine.
The exciting news from Ford is the Focus RS, an all-wheel drive version of the popular Focus hatchback that boasts around 350 hp from its turbocharged engine.
Ford's other debut is not as quick, but no less important: the 2017 Ford Escape is a popular compact crossover wearing updated styling.
Lincoln presented the Canadian debut of its MKZ mid-size sedan, which wears new front-end styling that will eventually migrate to the rest of brand's line of cars and crossovers.
Honda, whose redesigned Civic sedan was named North American Car of the Year on January 11 at the Detroit auto show, chose Montreal for the Canadian reveal of latest coupe version of the popular compact.
Another new compact comes from Hyundai, which showed the brand new 2017 Elantra sedan that once again brings big style at affordable pricing.
Hyundai also showed the Vision G Coupe concept, which shows what it has in mind for a future luxury coupe addition to its Genesis premium lineup.
Infiniti's highlight was its QX30, a new compact hatchback available in a low-slung front-drive version...
... and a hiked-up AWD model.
Also new from Infiniti for 2016 is a restyled version of the QX60 mid-size crossover.
Kia showed its 2017 Sportage, a redesigned compact crossover that looks more German than Korean. Also making a debut (but not pictured) is a refreshed 2016 Optima family sedan.
The Huracan is Lamborghini's newest model, and for 2016 it gains a convertible model called the Spyder being shown in Canada for the first time.
If Lambo's entry-level model isn't flashy enough, check out the brand's other Canadian debut, the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce, which boasts 50 hp more than the standard Aventador, for a total of 750.
Lexus revealed a trio of models in Montreal that includes the V8-powered GS F high-performance sedan, and the less-extreme GS 350 (not pictured), which wears new styling for 2016.
Also making its Canadian premiere is a redesigned Lexus LX 570 full-size SUV.

Mercedes-Benz had two vehicles making their first appearances at a Canadian auto show. One is the GLC-Class, the latest version of its compact crossover line, formerly known as the GLK...
... and at the other end of the Benz crossover spectrum is the GLS-Class, a full-size model that used to be called the GL-Class.
Mini, maker of some of the most entertaining small cars on the market, parks its all-new Clubman model in front of a Canadian auto show audience for the first time in Montreal...
... along with an also-new convertible variant.
Mitsubishi showed a trio of models basking in the glow of Canadian auto show lights for the first time. One is the significantly-updated RVR compact crossover...
... and next to it are an updated Mirage subcompact...
... and a refreshed Lancer compact.
Nissan is one of the stars of this year's show for its Rogue Warrior, a customized version of the brand's compact crossover with tracks in place of its wheels. Don't look for this in showrooms any time soon.
There are three other new Nissans here you can take home with you, however: one is a special edition of the tiny Micra done up in a Micra Cup Special Edition trim that pays homage to the Canadian race series Nissan started last year.
This Sentra is one of two other restyled Nissans being shown in Canada for the first time.
Porsche's Canadian news is the Macan GTS, a new version of the company's compact crossover that slots in between the existing S and Turbo trims.
Toyota's pair of Canadian debuts include an all-new Prius hybrid...
... and the Tundra full-size pickup in TRD PRO trim.
Finally, Volkswagen's two Canuck premieres are a Beetle convertible done up in a new Denim trim...
... and the Golf Sportwagon Alltrack, which adds all-wheel drive to the compact wagon that boasts interior space to rival some mid-size crossovers.
