This A8 L is Loooooong

If you're being driven around in your Audi A8 L and just wishing for some more room, then Audi has your answer. The premium car maker has just shown pictures of a brand new, one off A8 L extended. The new car adds just over 110 cm to the wheelbase of the A8 L, itself already 13 cm longer than a standard A8. The A8 L extended has a 4.22 metre wheelbase, six doors, and front facing captain's chairs for all four rear passengers.

Audi spent almost a year designing this car for a specific but unnamed customer, and has received further requests to make more of them. We wonder which world leader will be the first to rock this uber-long Audi?

This isn't a cut and weld some bits in the middle like your typical Hummer or MKX limo; Audi has used extended side sills and a longer center tunnel made using longer extruded aluminum sections. Behind the rear seats is a double-walled bulkhead, and extensive bracing has also been added to the roof. The bracing is needed, as in addition to the extra length, there is also a 2.4 metre glass panel moonroof. Audi claims that despite the extra length and glass roof that the limo A8 is almost as rigid as a standard A8 L.

Inside is special Valcona leather seating, six individually power adjustable seats, electric sunshades on all rear glass, a rear seat entertainment display and a refrigerated cool box for the rearmost row.

Under hood is Audi's 3.0L TFSI supercharged gasoline V6 producing 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Audi claims that this gives the relatively light weight (2,418 kg) A8 L extended a 0-100 km/h time of 7.1 seconds and a governed top speed of 251 km/h. This executive express can transport the whole board in speed, comfort and style.
