Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S and GLC 63 S Coupe Confirmed for Canada

Have you always wanted a mid-size crossover with a biturbo V8? If so, you’re in luck: Mercedes-AMG marked a segment first by mounting their 4.0L eight-cylinder beast in the new GLC 63 S and GLC 63 S Coupe, introduced to the world today at the New York International Auto Show. And both iterations are coming to Canada.

This engine, with its 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque available from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm, propels both of these sporty variants from 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (though the top speed is electronically limited to top out at 250 km/h). Both cars also feature the same AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed transmission found in the E 63 S as well as a three-chamber air suspension system with three-mode adaptive adjustable damping, and all Canadian models will include 4Matic+ permanent all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution and a rear-axle electronically limited-slip differential.

The staggered 20-inch or optional 21-inch tires – 265 mm wide in the front and 295 mm in the rear – are mounted on light-alloy wheels with a high-sheen finish, and both models are also graced with the AMG Panamericana grille, a design element previously exclusive to the AMG GT family of vehicles.

On the Coupe variant, an exclusive Edition 1 special edition will be available at launch with high-gloss black highlights, an AMG sports exhaust system, 21-inch matte black wheels matched with yellow rim flanges, black Nappa leather with yellow contrast stitching, and a microfiber flat-bottomed performance steering wheel with 12 o’clock marking.

With SUVs now forming one-third of Mercedes-Benz global sales, expect to see a big push behind these models when they launch in Canada next winter.
