Porsche unveiled the Mission E Cross Turismo concept in Geneva today, laying out the next plank in its electrified vehicle plan.
Based on the Mission E sport sedan it rolled out at 2015's Frankfurt auto show, the Cross Turismo adds a wagon-like rear, extra ground clearance and some rugged visual touches to create the first look at a future of electric Porsche crossovers.
This concept also hints at a fulfillment of Porsche's promise that the Mission E will become a family of vehicles that could become as populous as any of its current model lines.
Porsche says that like the original Mission E, the Cross Turismo borrows styling cues from the 911 while incorporating 800-volt fast-charge capability (good for 400 km of range in about 15 minutes) and two drive motors that supply over 600 hp. So, not only will this four-seat (now) crossover carry you and your stuff – thanks to the flexible interior and "modern mounting systems" – but it will also scoot from 0-100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, Porsche says.
Underpinning the Cross Turismo is a chassis boasting four-wheel steering and an air suspension that can add ground clearance and provide active roll stabilization.
Inside, high-tech infotainment displays can be operated by driver and front passenger via eye tracking.
Porsche has said it wants to have the original Mission E in showrooms by the end of 2019, so we'd suggest watching for the Cross Turismo to become reality in 2020.
