Sonata, Santa Fe Sport, Tucson Recalled

Transport Canada has just issued a recall on the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Sonata, and Tucson. More than 255,000 of those vehicles, from model years 2011 to 2018 are affected.

The recall is for an issue with the engine control module. Transport Canada says that it's an update "to detect potential problems before an engine fails." That engine failure would mean a sudden loss of power and the driver would not have the ability to restart the engine. Which could increase the risk of an accident.

Transport Canada doesn't list which of the available engines in the vehicles are affected, but some in the affected model and years have already seen the corrective software update. The recall covers the Santa Fe Sport from 2013 to 2018, the Sonata sedan from 2011-2018, and the Tucson for model years 2014 and 2015.

Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a notice from the manufacturer in the mail, but can also check Hyundai's website or contact their dealer to find out if their vehicle falls under the recall.
