Volvo Bringing 415 hp Polestar Engineered to V60 Wagon, XC60 Crossover

If you missed out on the quick-selling 2019 Volvo S60 from Polestar Engineered, the Swedish automaker has some news you'll probably like. They've just announced that the V60 wagon and XC60 crossover will be getting the Polestar treatment soon. That means 415 hp from the PHEV driveline along with more upgrades.

It starts with the T8 driveline, making 415 hp and 494 lb-ft. Coming from a 2.0 L four-cylinder with both a turbo and a supercharger. And two electric motors. One up front and one in the rear. That's 15 hp up on the non-Polestar T8.

More importantly, Polestar engineers have had their way with the powertrain. Software changes mean that the driver will have faster access to torque. It will also send more power to the rear wheels, which should give it well balanced handling.

Damping is handled by Öhlins. The company adds adjustable dampers with dual flow valves. Volvo says that means the dampers respond more quickly to road imperfections. There's also a strut bar in the front to add rigidity.

The brakes are upgraded with six-piston callipers supplied by Brembo finished in Polestar gold. The 19-inch forged alloy wheels are both light-weight and allow more air to cool the brakes.

Cosmetic changes are slight on these Polestar Engineered models, but there are wider wheel arches, black chrome tailpipes, a black grille, and small Polestar badges. It's a similar story inside, where the cars have gold seat belts and a Nappa leather and textile upholstery with leather-wrapped sport wheel.

The two new Polestar Engineered 2020 model year Volvos are set to arrive this summer.
