2020 Honda CR-V Gets Facelift, Price Hike, No Hybrid for Canada

Honda is giving the CR-V a freshening for 2020, making some styling changes, adding its active safety suite across the board, and giving Canadians two exclusive new trim levels. What we aren't getting, though, is the hybrid version.

It starts with new bumpers up front, framing a new grille that boasts less chrome up top and more along the bottom. Plus revised headlights and some trims get new wheel styles. In the rear, the changes are equally subtle with the back bumper getting a new chrome strip that echoes the front. The taillights are now tinted, the tailgate chrome is darkened, and the back window tint is darker. New fog lights get LED elements on top trims.

There's a newly redesigned center console with more flexible storage, Honda says, with wireless phone charging in that console on Touring and Black Edition trims. Other new standard interior features for 2020 include remote start, heated front seats, and front wiper de-icer across the board. A heated steering wheel has been brought down one trim level, to Sport. Previously it was only on EX-L and Touring.

Honda has added the Honda Sensing active safety suite to the full line of 2020 CR-Vs, including collision mitigation braking with forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, and lane-keeping assist, though that really only benefits buyers who had been looking at the LX-2WD trim, since it was already standard on the rest. Two new trims are Canada-only this year, Sport, which replaces EX, and Black Edition, which is a new range-topper with perforated leather seats, black woodgrain trim, and unique 19-inch alloys.

With the refresh comes an increase in the base price, which has risen $1,000 to $28,690 for 2020. That price increase climbs to $2,750 for the Touring trim. The only engine choice remains a 190 hp 1.5L turbo-four, the naturally aspirated base engine that the U.S. dropped for this year wasn't offered here. The one we're surprised not to see, though, is the hybrid offering in the CR-V that was introduced for the U.S. for 2020. We were told in September that the electrified one would not be offered for sale here. The 2020 Honda CR-V goes on sale today.
