GMC is adding another truck to its lineup of off-road-ready AT4 models. The 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 brings the extra capability, luxury trimmings, and special finishes of the AT4 brand to the company's compact pickup.
Like the Sierra AT4 that debuted the new branding, the Canyon AT4 comes with modifications that give it extra ability off-road. Starting with 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires on 17-inch alloy wheels, there's also an off-road-tuned suspension. The four-wheel-drive system adds an Eaton automatic locking rear differential, and there is a hill descent control added to the suite of electronics. Finally, for extra protection over rocks and other obstacles, the AT4 adds a skid plate to protect the transfer case.
The most obvious cosmetic change for the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is the massive new grille. It looks like it's sized for the larger Sierra, then fitted to the Canyon's narrower and shorter nose. The AT4 trim also has dark chrome finishes on the outside and red tow hooks. Inside, GMC has fitted Kalahari stitching and AT4 headrest embroidery.
GMC also announced changes to the Canyon Denali for 2021, though it didn't include photos of the revisions. The Denali also gets a new grille with what GMC calls "a more sculpted and layered pattern," plus chrome steps, and Denali-exclusive 20-inch alloys. Inside, the Canyon Denali will get open-pore ash wood trim and special stitching, with a new Cocoa/Dark Atmosphere colour. Denali will also add heated and ventilated seats standard, with a heated steering wheel.
Both versions of the 2021 GMC Canyon will be available with a 308 hp 3.6L V6 or a 181 hp, 369 lb-ft of torque 2.8L Duramax diesel. The 2021 GMC Canyon will be available later this year, with pricing closer to the start of production.
