Kia has revealed the first official images of the all-new 2021 Sorento crossover. The model departs drastically from the old one, making the current Sorento look downright dull compared with this new sharper image that borrows cues from some of the automaker's other current models to help add some excitement to the midsize SUV.
The automaker calls it "the concept of 'refined boldness'," but we call it handsome. Start with the tail, where the rear lights, exhaust cutouts, and tailgate design are clearly borrowed from the larger and much more rugged Telluride. Rather than using that same look all the way through, the nose is a massive departure from the Telluride and uses a more of a sharper, meaner version of the front from the new Seltos, set off by LED headlights and Kia's latest tiger-nose grille. The proportions have been changed and the new Sorento looks wider and longer. The A-pillar has been pulled 30 mm back from the front axle to give it more of a long-nose conventional SUV look.
On the inside, this looks like no other Kia. It's a much more upscale-looking design than previous Sorentos, and if it looks as good in person as it does in photos, it could put this Kia near the top of the class. The split-trapezoidal vents look like they will let you blow air anywhere you need, there's a mix of real controls for the climate, a volume and tuning knob, and a 10.25-inch wide touchscreen infotainment system available. Look to the passenger side of the dash and there is ambient lighting showcased as well as what looks like a diamond-textured dash panel. A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel is also on offer here.
Kia says that the new Sorento will be "the most high-tech vehicle Kia has ever created," though it doesn't elaborate on that tech. The company also says that the new model, based on an all-new platform, will raise the bar for space and practicality. We'll wait until we see more specs of the new Sorento after its full debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in March.
