Top 10 Cheapest V8 Vehicles in Canada in 2020

With plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles becoming more popular and gas prices remaining quite high in most provinces – recent COVID-19-related blip notwithstanding – fewer and fewer car shoppers are looking to get themselves into a vehicle with a V8 engine.

That doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of V8 cars or trucks available today, though. If you’re in the market for an eight-cylinder mode of transportation, you still have plenty of choice – though finding a new V8 vehicle for cheap can be a challenge.

autoTRADER.ca is here to help, though. We’ve compiled a list of the least expensive V8 vehicles currently on sale in Canada – hopefully helping you on your journey to find a powerful car or truck without breaking the bank.

Scroll down to view the least expensive V8 vehicles currently on sale in Canada. Keep in mind, the prices displayed here are for the actual base price of the vehicles – the manufacturer-suggested retail price (MSRP), destination fee, federal air conditioning tax, plus the V8 powertrain option (if applicable) – and do not include incentives on vehicles. Note also that dealers may still have brand-new 2019 models in stock that may qualify for additional savings.

10. Ram 1500 Tradesman – $48,340

Our list kicks off with a truck: The 2020 Ram 1500 Tradesman is priced from $46,440 including destination – a $1,900 powertrain upgrade gets you the 395-horsepower 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engine with 410 lb-ft of torque, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This same engine is found in a variety of other vehicles under the FCA umbrella, including the Dodge Challenger and Charger, as well as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, the latter of which just missed the cut-off for this list.

9. Dodge Charger R/T – $46,190

Not many companies are offering V8-powered sedans anymore, but it should be no surprise that Dodge remains confident in powerful, rear-wheel-drive four-doors. The 2020 Dodge Charger R/T is offered with a 370-horsepower 5.7-litre HEMI V8 that puts out 395 lb-ft of torque. Prices start at $46,190 including destination. Not bad at all!

8. Dodge Challenger R/T – $43,585

The Dodge Challenger R/T is the least-expensive version of the retro-look muscle coupe available with a V8 engine. It has the same 5.7-litre V8 as the Charger R/T but configured for 372 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Prices start at $42,585 including destination; the V8 is a $1,000 option. Prices start at $37,215 before incentives – over $9,000 cheaper than the current-generation Ram 1500. Buyers will have to pony up $2,150 to step up to the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engine with 395-horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

3. Ford F-150 XL – $37,389

The best-selling vehicle in North America, the Ford F-150, starts at $34,339 – the XL trim is a bare-bones work truck trim with two-wheel drive, however. For our purposes, it can be ordered with a 5.0-litre V8 engine (395 hp, 400 lb-ft) and 10-speed automatic transmission for an additional $3,050.

Buyers can spec the 5.3-litre V8 engine, which puts out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft torque, paired to a six-speed automatic for $1,845. Compared to its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Silverado, the Sierra is positioned as the more upscale vehicle and offers a much deeper options list.

1. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT 2WD Regular Cab – $35,143

It’s a GM one-two punch: The cheapest vehicle available with a V8 engine in Canada is the base-level Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – available with the same 355 hp 383 lb-ft 5.7-litre V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission from $35,143. For this price, you’ll have to settle for the bare-bones WT trim – which stands for “Work Truck”.

So there you have it – the cheapest V8 vehicles currently on sale in Canada for the 2020 model year. Remember – a lot of the vehicle prices displayed here are before incentives, so many can actually be purchased for less.
