VW Unveils Stylish Interior for Upcoming ID.4 Electric Crossover

Volkswagen has released new images revealing the interior of its upcoming battery-electric crossover, the ID.4.

VW describes the ID.4's interior as "flowing and lightweight," and "focusing on the essential." The ID.4 has a "floating" dash with a horizontally mounted display screen and a small driver's display behind the steering wheel. An ambient light strip runs through the middle of the dash, as well, splitting a white trim piece from the black plastic lower half. There's also a multi-function steering wheel with what appear to be touch controls.

Another highlight of the ID.4's interior is the "ID. Light" system. This is a strip of light that runs below the windshield and is used to "accentuate information issued by the driver assist and navigation systems." For example, the light switch may blink in conjunction with the lane departure assist if a vehicle is in the blind spot while changing lanes. The light will also point in a certain direction to aid in navigation and will change colour when a phone call is incoming. VW says ID. Light will be standard in all new "ID." models, which is the automaker's new electric vehicle sub-brand.

Additionally, the VW ID.4 will feature large door openings for easy ingress and egress, a high seating position, and a large second-row bench seat. The automaker promises this fully electric crossover will make it "easy to stow away plenty of luggage," too, with 543 litres of cargo capacity with the second-row seats up.

The Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to have around 482 kilometres of maximum range. The first models will be rear-wheel-drive only, with all-wheel-drive models expected to arrive at a later date. We expect AWD models to receive the "ID.4X" name, based on trademark applications filed by VW previously.

autoTRADER.ca will have all the details on the new VW ID.4 following its debut later this month.
