The 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback will look to introduce a little bit of fun and playfulness into the Audi crossover lineup when it goes on sale in Canada next year.
The 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback isn't much different than the regular version of the crossover on which it's based, except for the rearward-sloping, coupe-like roofline, which helps give the vehicle a more youthful character. This has slightly affected the luggage capacity, though, falling from 550 litres behind the second row in the standard Q5 to 510 litres in the Sportback.
Details on the powertrain for the Canadian-spec model that will go on sale here in the second quarter of next year are slim right now. We know the European model will come with a choice of two 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, however, along with a four-cylinder diesel and a V6 diesel. We'll only be getting the 2.0L models here in North America, most likely, which will come paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and the automaker's Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Also setting the 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback apart is the standard sport suspension, which is stiffer and "more tautly tuned" than the regular Q5's for a slightly more agile feel. Customers who want better handling performance can also opt for the optional electronically adjustable dampers or the adaptive air suspension systems.
All Audi Q5 Sportback models will come with a 10.1-inch central infotainment touch display, while a 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus digital display is available, as well. If the driver wants more information at the ready, a head-up display is available for extra. The user also has easy control of the entire system thanks to the onboard voice control system, which can be activated by saying "Hey Audi."
Audi has already confirmed the Q5 Sportback will be offered as a plug-in hybrid with two different outputs and as an SQ5 Sportback performance model. It's not clear if any of these model variants will be coming to Canada, however. We're also awaiting details on Canadian pricing for the crossover, which we expect to be released as its on-sale date in Q2 2021 approaches.
