Lincoln's latest update in its lineup-wide brand transformation is now complete. The refreshed 2021 Nautilus has debuted with extensive interior updates to bring it in-line with the rest of the luxury automaker's lineup, and that includes a massive new infotainment screen and the latest version of Sync.
Hot on the heels of the best third quarter in Canada for Lincoln since 1980, the new Nautilus is just about the opposite of the single car the brand was selling at that time. Outside, it gets a small update including some new colours and an available monochromatic trim package, as well as a bit of new chrome crossing the nose from side to side. Lincoln calls it "polished" over the outgoing version.
Inside, though, are the big changes. A "coast to coast" dashboard layout, much like that of its other crossovers and SUVs, links the Nautilus from door to door with horizontal lines. Sitting atop it is the new 13.2-inch centre screen, one of the largest in the segment. Also gone are the old vertical shift buttons, with piano key switches taking their place. This looks to be an interior much more fitting of a luxury vehicle than the old one, offering new materials and colours, like the option of a Chalet (light) or Flight (caramel) colour scheme.
While in the Ford Edge the large screen is in portrait mode, the Lincoln keeps it in landscape. A new interface for Sync4 makes the background look like a series of constellations, while functionally it adds faster operation, over the air updates, and a searchable digital owner's manual. A mix of cloud and local computing power enables real-time traffic and hazard information as well as improved search results when looking for destinations and points of interest.
Powertrains remain unchanged, with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder offering 250 hp and 280 lb-ft as well as a 2.7L twin-turbo V6 with 335 hp and 380 lb-ft. Both use an eight-speed automatic transmission and have AWD available. Lincoln said a hybrid wasn't currently on the cards for the Nautilus, saying that the Corsair and Aviator offerings left little demand for an in-betweener.
The Oakville, Ont., built 2021 Lincoln Nautilus will arrive at dealers early next year, offered in the Reserve trim.
