The Volkswagen ID.4 now has an official range estimate on this side of the pond, at least for two of the editions of the electric crossover expected to come to market sometime next summer.
Arriving in the US first as the 1st Edition and the ID.4 Pro, the EPA estimated range on a full charge of the 82 kWh battery is 250 miles. That's 405 km, and while Natural Resources Canada hasn't yet released our number we expect it to match the EPA's. Compare it to the 500 km range estimate on the WLTP cycle used in Europe and tailored more to driving on that continent.
That's for the 201-hp, 228-lb-ft rear-drive model that's set to arrive first. A 302-hp twin-motor all-wheel-drive version will follow, which is expected to have a shorter range when equipped with the same-size battery pack.
The ID.4 can be fast-charged at 125 kW, letting it go from five to 80 percent charged in around 38 minutes, Volkswagen says. The ID.4 will come with standard heated front seats, steering wheel, and windshield in Canada, along with 19-inch alloys.
Starting price for the US version of the ID.4 Pro is $39,995, and while we have yet to see Canadian pricing, there is a massive incentive for VW to bring the crossover here for under $45,000 – the $5,000 federal EV incentive requires the base model to stay under that target to qualify.
