The Nissan Armada has received a mild update for the 2021 model year that brings updated exterior styling, additional standard safety features and new technologies to the gargantuan family SUV.
Nissan says the 2021 Armada features “more squared and chiseled bodywork appearance from the A-pillars forward,” compared to the pre-update model, helping to give the SUV a more current and contemporary appearance. The SUV’s front fascia now incorporates different LED headlights and daytime running lights, which are joined by new rear combination taillights. There are also new 20-inch standard wheels for the entry-level SL trim, while the range-topping Platinum gets new machine-face 22-inch wheels.
Inside, the 2021 Armada receives a new standard 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment display, which is s whopping 4.3 inches larger than the screen in the 2020 Armada and also the largest display screen in the full-size SUV segment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, along with an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Like the 2020 Armada, the SUV comes with two rear benches, although Platinum models offer optional second-row captain’s chairs and a removable second-row center console.
Just like before, the only available engine in the 2021 Armada is a 5.7-litre V8, which produces 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel-drive. This combination helps give the Armada a best-in-class standard tow rating of 8,500 lb. A standard trailer brake controller and trailer sway control enhance the SUV's towing capabilities.
Standard active safety equipment on this mildly updated three-row SUV includes intelligent cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high-beam assist, 360-degree surround view camera system and rear automatic braking, among more.
The 2021 Nissan Armada will be available in two trim levels in Canada: entry-level SL and the handsomely equipped Platinum. Look for the SUV to begin arriving at Nissan dealerships in January of 2021. The Japanese automaker will release pricing details and Canadian fuel economy figures for the SUV closer to its arrival next year.
