The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door has received a number of small updates and revisions for the 2022 model year – although even the most diehard of AMG fans will be hard-pressed to identify what’s changed.
That’s because the majority of changes applied to the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe have either happened underneath the vehicle’s skin or relate to new equipment and optional extras. The most notable change is the addition of a new Manufaktur Exclusive Edition package, which adds Rubellite Red Metallic exterior paint, chrome exterior trim and 21-inch five-spoke painted silver wheels. Inside, these special edition models get Neva Grey and Black napa leather upholstery, open-pore Grey Ash wood trim, illuminated sill panels, and an AMG Edition badge on the instrument panel.
All 2022 GT 4-Door Coupe models will also receive a new AMG Performance three-spoke steering wheel, which includes multi-function buttons for various vehicle and entertainment controls, along with a performance drive mode selector. The gear shift paddles for the AMG Speedshift nine-speed transmission are also larger and mounted lower down on the wheel than before. Joining the redesigned steering wheel is a new available rear bench seat option, which turns this four-seater into a family-friendly five-seater.
An optional new AMG Ride Control+ suspension system has been added, as well, which includes two new pressure valves for the rebound damping and compression damping. We don't want to bore you with too much suspension-related tech talk, but put simply, these new dampers allow Mercedes to improve ride comfort without compromising the sporty sedan's handling or dynamics.
Customers will be able to choose from a wider variety of interior and exterior colors from 2022 onward, too. New exterior colors include Spectral Blue Metallic, Spectral Blue Magno, and Cashmere White Magno, while new interior leather options include Sienna Brown, Classic Red, Yacht Blue, and Deep White, among others. A new AMG Night Package II gives customers a little more personalization options, adding dark chrome exterior trim and gloss black painted Mercedes and AMG logos.
Mercedes-AMG has only released official details on the turbocharged inline- six AMG GT53 model at this point, with details on the updated V8-powered GT63 and GT63s expected to be released at a later date. The AMG GT53 will continue with the same mild-hybrid EQ Boost-assisted powertrain, which doles out 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque.
Canadian pricing for the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will be announced close to its official on-sale date later this year.
