2022 Subaru Ascent SUV Pricing Announced, New Onyx Edition Joins Lineup

Subaru has announced a $37,295 starting price for the 2022 Ascent three-row SUV, marking a $300 increase over last year. The Ascent also gains a new Onyx trim level and sees its Touring trim level gain new standard equipment.

The new starting price applies to the base Convenience trim, which once again comes standard with LED steering-responsive headlights, automatic high beams, heated front seats, and Apple and Android smartphone connectivity. Subaru’s EyeSight driver safety assist package is standard across the line.

Subaru has also added a heated steering wheel to the Touring trim’s list of standard equipment; last year, it was only included in the Limited and Premier packages. Touring trim’s price increases by $400 to $42,895, or $43,495 with optional captain’s chairs.

The new Onyx trim fills the gap between the Ascent’s existing Touring and Limited trim levels. Priced at $44,995 – $1,500 more than Touring with the captain’s chairs – it swaps out the standard chrome grille for a black one and adds black window and door trim and black 20-inch wheels; inside, there are black dashboard accents, and seats in soft-touch all-weather upholstery.

The Limited and Premier trims see $300 price increases.

As before, the Subaru Ascent is powered by a 2.4L turbocharged engine making 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and starting with Touring trim, the Ascent can tow up to 2,270 kg thanks to an auxiliary transmission cooler that’s not included in the base Convenience model.

Subaru says the 2022 Ascent will arrive at the brand’s Canadian showrooms this fall.
