Honda Canada announced today that the all-new 2022 Civic hatchback will go on sale next month at a starting price of $28,000.
Based on the 11th-generation Civic sedan introduced earlier this year, the latest hatchback comes in $2,400 less than the outgoing Civic hatch – but that lower price includes less performance.
The new Civic LX hatchback gives up the current car’s standard turbocharged engine, instead using a 2.0L four-cylinder (158 hp / 138 lb-ft of torque) that also provides entry-level power in the Civic sedan. Honda’s 1.5L turbo motor (180 hp / 177 lb-ft) is included in Sport and Sport Touring trim levels.
Both engines – and all three trim levels – will be available with a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic, and both transmissions are priced equally: $28,000 for the LX, $31,500 for Sport, and $35,000 for Sport Touring; the prices listed do not include the $1,700 destination charge.
Honda has not published the Civic hatchback’s full list of standard features, but says all trims will come with the Honda Sensing suite of driver safety assists, which adds a traffic-jam assist function while refining the existing adaptive cruise and lane-keeping assist systems for a more natural feel.
LX trim also comes with a 7.0-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button engine start, a part-digital gauge cluster, and LED headlights. Honda says the 2022 model has the largest-ever back seat of any Civic hatch, but a claimed 693 L of cargo volume is down from the 2021’s 727 L capacity.
Sport trim bolsters its performance edge with 18-inch wheels, an upgraded stereo, trim-specific seat upholstery, and a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel. Sport Touring adds LED fog lights, Bose audio, front and rear parking sensors, low-speed braking control, rear cross-traffic alert, 9.0-inch touchscreen, and a fully digital gauge display.
Honda says the new Civic lineup will eventually include sporty Si and Type R variants, too, but doesn’t say whether both will be offered in hatchback configuration.
The 2022 Honda Civic hatchback is set to arrive at dealers across Canada on October 1.
