2022 Genesis GV60 Electric Crossover Debuts with 450 KM of Range

The new 2022 Genesis GV60 electric crossover has made its official debut prior to its Canadian market launch next year.

While Genesis actually revealed the GV60 back in August of this year, it only showed a handful of exterior and interior images at the time and refrained from sharing information about its powertrain. The luxury brand has now released some information on the battery and motor for the Korean-spec model that will launch locally in the coming months, which should give us a rough idea of what to expect from the Canadian-spec model once it arrives next year.

In Korea, all versions of the Genesis GV60 model will come with a 77.4-kWh lithium-ion battery. A single motor, rear-wheel drive (RWD) powertrain will come standard, with these models delivering a maximum output of 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain will also be offered from launch in Korea, which will boast a maximum combined output of 313 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. Genesis estimates the range for the RWD model at around 451 kilometres per charge, while the AWD model is good for about 400 km of range.

A performance model will be offered in Korea as well, which will feature a more powerful dual-motor setup good for 429 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. These models will have a slightly lower estimated range of 368 kilometres due to the presence of a less-efficient electric motor.

Ultra-fast charging is a key feature of the 2022 Genesis GV60. The crossover uses a unique rapid charging system that converts the 400V output supplied by the charger to 800V, providing quick charge speeds no matter the infrastructure being used. Genesis says this system can fill the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 18 minutes when charging at 350 kW.

Inside, the GV60 has an open and airy design that follows Genesis’ “Beauty of White Space” design ethos. The crossover stays true to its eco-friendly nature by using various recycled materials in the cabin, including seat covers and door trims made from recycled PET bottles and fishnets. Other highlights include the “Crystal Sphere” rotary shift knob/dial and the new Integrated Cockpit display, which combines the gauge cluster and center infotainment screen into a single, high-definition widescreen unit.

From launch, the Korean-spec Genesis GV60 will be available in a total of 11 exterior colours: Sao Paulo Lime, Hanauma Mint, Atacama Copper, and Atacama Copper Matte, Vik Black, Uyuni White, Matterhorn White, Saville Silver, Carbon Metal, Melbourne Gray, and Royal Blue. Available interior colours will include Obsidian Black, Torrent Navy, Ash Gray/Glacier White, Monstera Green/Camel Beige, and Monstera Green/Glassier White.

To reiterate, the above specifications apply to the Korean-market Genesis GV60 only. The electric crossover will launch in Canada in early 2022, at which point we’ll have details on this model’s performance, range, pricing and availability.
