Canadian Pricing for Redesigned 2022 Toyota GR86 Announced

The redesigned 2022 Toyota GR86 sports car goes on sale Dec. 1 at a starting price of $31,490, Toyota Canada announced today.

That price applies to the car’s base trim with a manual transmission, while a Premium trim level will start at $34,490. In both cars, an automatic transmission option adds $2,400.

Toyota says the base GR86 comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a digital gauge display, dual-zone air conditioning, and passive keyless entry. The automatic transmission’s larger price tag is due to it being bundled with forward collision detection with automatic braking, radar cruise control, lane departure warning, sway warning, and lead vehicle start alert.

All GR86 models will also have a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, three drive modes (normal, sport, and track), an 8.0-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

The GR86 Premium trim adds 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, leather/Alcantara upholstery, heated front seats, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and adaptive headlights. Again, opting for the automatic adds that suite of driver safety assists.

Born as the Scion FR-S and then rechristened the Toyota 86 when the Scion brand was discontinued, the GR86 is the second generation of the 2+2 sports car Toyota designed alongside Subaru, which markets its version as the BRZ.

At the heart of the 2022 Toyota GR86 is a 2.4L horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, which replaces a 2.0L with 205 hp/156 lb-ft. More important than the new motor’s additional power is that it corrects a flat spot in the old engine’s torque curve, making for more linear acceleration. Toyota says the 2022 GR86 with a manual transmission is 0.9 seconds quicker to 100 km/h (at 6.3 seconds) than its predecessor, and the automatic car’s 6.8-second sprint is a 1.4-second improvement.
