2023 Polestar 3 Electric Performance SUV Coming Soon

The 2023 Polestar 3 is the next vehicle coming from the electric offshoot of Volvo, and the automaker has shared a preview of what to expect.

While the photo reveals the electric performance SUV covered in a QR code-like wrap that hides many of the vehicle's details, we can see the basic overall shape just fine. The 2023 Polestar 3 will be built in South Carolina and is set to go on sale near the end of 2022.

"Polestar 3 will redefine SUVs for the electric age," the automaker says in a statement that seems surprisingly bold for the Swedish brand.

We'll have to wait and see what the brand means by that statement, as Polestar didn't share many details about the new performance EV SUV, and instead focused on its plan to send the Precept concept car on a U.S. national tour that could correspond to a planned stock market listing.

The Polestar 3 looks a lot like the Volvo C40 Recharge, the first ground-up EV from the parent brand. Differences visible in the photo revealed today include much more aggressive "Thor's hammer" headlights extending into the hood and a grille (or what passes for a grille on an EV) that is more Polestar than Volvo.

After the Polestar 3 next year, the company is planning to launch the Polestar 4 for 2023 and it will be a smaller performance SUV coupe. A four-door GT car called the Polestar 5 is due for 2024 and will be the production version of the Precept concept.

Polestar currently has three of its showrooms in Canada, called Polestar spaces, located in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The brand hopes to grow from around 29,000 sales globally this year to 290,000 by 2025.
