Kia's Forte compact sedan and Forte5 hatch are getting a facelift for 2022.
The cars are also adding new tech including a larger display and extra driving assistance features. At the top of the lineup, the starting price of the turbocharged GT model has increased due the manual transmission being dropped.
New, more aggressive headlights, as well as an updated grille, are framed by bumper changes. The rear bumper has been reworked and there are new wheel designs.
On the inside, the Forte gets a slight centre console update that ditches the handbrake for an electronic unit but doesn't do much to free up extra space in between the seats. New driver assistance tech includes lane-follow assist, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, so-called highway driving assist, and safe exit warning, though none are included on base trim vehicles.
A 4.2-inch LCD screen in the gauge cluster is larger than before and standard in all trims, while a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation is standard in GT-Line and GT and replaces the eight-inch model found in lesser trims. All Forte models get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Two engines are available: a 147-hp 2.0L four with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) — an LX with manual transmission is still offered — as well as a 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder with 201 hp and a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that is exclusive to GT and GT Limited models. For those wanting GT looks without the extra power or cost, a GT-Line trim is new for the sedan and adds sportier looks to the EX model.
The 2022 Kia Forte and 2022 Kia Forte5 go on sale in Canada soon, starting from $18,295 for the sedan and $22,695 for the hatch for a non-negotiable freight fee in the neighbourhood of $1,700.
