History/Overview
Introduced in 2013, the Encore is a subcompact crossover that serves as the entry point to Buick’s all-SUV lineup. In 2020, the Encore spawned a larger sibling called Encore GX, which is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.

For 2022, the Buick Encore drops the less powerful of two versions of its 1.4L turbocharged engine.
Available Trims
Buick offers the Encore in a single Preferred trim level powered by a 1.4L turbo four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Front- and all-wheel drivetrains are available.
Standard Features
Every Encore comes with 18-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, passive keyless entry, and LED daytime running lights. Interior features include a six-speaker stereo, power driver’s seat, A/C, a 7.0-inch infotainment display, Apple Carplay/Android Auto, leather-trimmed steering wheel, and leatherette upholstery.
Key Options
A safety package adds rain-sensing wipers, front and rear park assist, forward collision alert, and lane departure warning.
A sunroof is a stand-alone option.
Fuel Economy
Buick’s fuel consumption estimates for the Encore are 9.7/7.3 L/100 km (city/highway) with FWD, and 10.2/7.7 L/100 km with AWD.
Competition
Despite Buick’s position as an upscale brand, the Encore’s price places it firmly in the mainstream section of the subcompact crossover segment, where it competes size- and performance-wise with vehicles like the Honda HR-V, Nissan Qashqai, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Kona, and Chevrolet Trailblazer.
