Now in its third generation, the Chevrolet Equinox was completely revised for 2018. There are three engine choices: a 170 hp 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder, a 250 hp 2.0L turbocharged four, and the recently arrived diesel. Only the turbo-charged 2.0L engine comes with GM’s new nine-speed automatic transmission, the other two are paired with a six-speed. With an output of 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, the Equinox Diesel is not overly powerful, but 90 percent of that torque is available as low as 1,500 rpm. The near-instantaneous response makes the engine feel stronger than it is. But diesels are often chosen for their torquey towing abilities, and this Equinox’s max tow rating of 1,500 lb falls far below the 2.0L turbo’s 3,500 lb.

On certain vehicles, a problem with the rear brake system may cause gas bubbles to form in the brake fluid. This could cause a soft brake pedal feel and a reduction in brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will bleed the rear brakes.

On certain vehicles, a joint on the high-pressure fuel pump may have been improperly welded during the manufacturing process. Over time, this could cause the weld to crack and create a potential fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of fire, causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pump and high-pressure fuel pipe.

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 205 - Glazing Materials. The glass manufacturer may have failed to fully temper the front door window glass during the manufacturing process. If broken, improperly tempered glass could shatter into large fragments, which could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the left and right front door glass.
