2021 Ford Bronco Review: Wrangling Jeeps

In the 2021 Ford Bronco the brand has brought its A-game directly to the rough and rugged Jeep Wrangler, riding a wave of hype that’s been years in the making. Brimming with capability, the born-again Bronco has everything it needs to match up with its rival from Jeep – including a hefty price tag. AutoTrader.ca's Dan Ilika takes Ford's off-road-focused SUV onto the trails to tackle some tough terrain and even tougher competition.

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 360-degree camera, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear on the SYNC display screen. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the rearview camera, and modify the camera wire retention as necessary. Some Transit models will also require a software update.

Issue: On certain vehicles, there may not be enough space between the side of the seat and the interior trim to reach the latch plate for the front seat belt. As a result, it may be difficult to use the seat belts. Note: This recall only affects 5-door models. Safety Risk: Not wearing a seat belt can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to install a sliding clip on each front seat belt. This clip will help to reposition the seat belt latch plate. The dealer will also provide an owner's manual update with instructions for how to use the sliding clip correctly.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the software update that was installed by a Ford dealer during recall 22C27 (Transport Canada recall number 2022-636) may not be effective. As a result, a second repair is required. Under certain conditions when the vehicle is operated in 4WD-Low (4L) mode, the rearview camera image could reappear on the display after shifting out of reverse. Note: This recall doesn't affect vehicles that received an over-the-air software update for the SYNC module as a part of recall 22C27. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that displays when the vehicle is not in reverse may confuse or distract the driver. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update for the SYNC module to each vehicle. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Ford dealership.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the side-impact sensors may not be secured correctly. As a result, the side airbags may not work properly in a side-impact crash. Note: This recall only affects 4-door models. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, secure the driver and passenger side-impact sensors.

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with adaptive cruise control (ACC), there could be a problem with the front radar module. As a result, your vehicle may follow another too closely when using adaptive cruise control. Also, the pre-collision assist (PCA) system might not detect a possible crash and the application of automatic emergency braking (AEB) may be delayed. Safety Risk: Following too closely behind another vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. An automatic emergency braking (AEB) system that doesn't work properly may not reduce the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to adjust the angle of the cruise control radar module.
