History/Overview
For 2020, the Ford F-150 enters the final year of its current generation, the first to use a lightweight aluminum body. The F-150 is carried over from 2019.
Available Trims
Ford offers the F-150 in seven trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited. Body styles include regular cab, Supercab and SuperCrew. There are five engines on offer: a 3.3L V6, a 5.0L V8, 2.7L and 3.5L turbocharged V6s, and a 3.0L turbodiesel V6. In addition, the 3.5L turbo comes in two versions, the more potent of which goes into the F-150 Limited and Raptor models.
XL and XLT use a six-speed automatic transmission; all other trims are matched with a 10-speed. The base driveline in most trims is rear-wheel drive, but 4WD is available.
Standard Features
F-150 XL models comes with 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, pre-collision assist with automatic braking, manual door locks, intermittent wipers, tilt-and-telescopic steering, an AM/FM stereo, black bumpers, capless fuel filling, manual windows and side mirror adjustments, automatic high beams, and tire pressure monitoring.
XLT adds power locks with keyless entry, satellite radio, Sync 3 infotainment, a Wi-Fi hotspot, aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers, fog lights, automatic on/off headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors, and power windows.
Lariat adds the 10-speed transmission, the 2.7L turbo engine, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, lane keeping system, blind spot monitoring, ambient interior lighting, passive keyless entry with push-button start, power-adjustable pedals, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, heated/ventilated 10-way power-adjustable front seats with memory, LED cargo box lighting, an auto-dimming driver's side mirror, and power-folding side mirrors.
King Ranch models gain the 5.0L V8 as the standard engine, along with a 136L fuel tank, all-terrain tires on 20-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, a B&O stereo, a power-adjustable steering column, navigation, inflatable second-row seatbelts, heated rear seats, LED headlights and fog lights (replacing halogens), a tailgate step with lift assist, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
Platinum trim brings power running boards (SuperCrew only), body-colour wheel lip mouldings, and body-colour exterior handles with chrome trim.
Limited models get the high-output 3.5L turbo V6, a dual exhaust with hidden tailpipes, adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, 22-inch wheels and all-season tires, and a twin-panel sunroof.
The F-150 Raptor shares its engine with the Limited model, but is otherwise much different, sporting an off-road, long-travel suspension and 17-inch all-terrain tires. It also gets a special overhead console with auxiliary upfitter switches. Raptor also gives up many of the Limited model's upscale features, including (but not limited to) dual-zone automatic air conditioning and ventilated front seats.
Key Options
An FX4 off-road package adds skid plates, special front shocks, hill descent control, and a locking rear differential. A trailer tow kit adds trailer wiring, a transmission cooler, and a Class IV hitch receiver.
Lariat offers a luxury package with a heated steering wheel, LED exterior lighting, and rain-sensing wipers. A technology package in King Ranch and Platinum adds 360-degree exterior camera views, and active park assist.
Raptor offers some appearance packages, and a luxury package adds 360-degree exterior camera views, adaptive cruise, ambient lighting, power-folding/heated side mirrors, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, passive keyless entry, power-adjustable pedals, and a trailer brake controller.
Fuel Economy
Ford's fuel consumption estimates for the 3.0L diesel are 11.1/8.3 L1/00 km (city/highway) with RWD and 11.3/8.5 with 4WD in XL/XLT trims, and 11.9/9.4 in other trims.
The 2.7L turbo V6 is rated 12.0/8.9 with RWD, and 13.1/10.2 with 4WD.
The 3.3L V6's estimates are 12.1/9.3 with RWD, and 12.9/10.2 with 4WD.
Ratings for the 3.5L V6 are 14.3/10.7 L/100 km (city/highway) in RWD trucks, 14.6/10.9 with 4WD, and 13.8/11.2 for the F-150 Limited.
The 5.0L V8 is rated at 14.3/10.6 L/100 km (city/highway) with RWD, and 15.1/11.6 L/100 km (with 4WD.
Raptor's ratings are 15.3/13.1 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Ford F-150's competitors are the Ram 1500, GM's Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins, the Nissan Frontier, and the Toyota Tundra.
