History/Overview
In 2018, Honda introduced the fifth generation of its Odyssey minivan. It’s the driver’s choice in the minivan segment, which now comprises just four models. Following a styling refresh last year, the Odyssey is unchanged for 2022.
Available Trims
Honda offers the Odyssey in four trims: EX-Res, EX-L Navi, EX-L Res and Touring. All four use the same powertrain, consisting of a 3.5L V6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Standard Features
EX-Res trim’s exterior features include 18-inch alloy wheels, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, a front wiper de-icer, LED headlights, LED taillights/fog lights, a sunroof, power-sliding rear doors, and passive keyless entry.
Inside, EX-Res has an auto-dimming rearview mirror, CabinTalk PA system, a garage door remote, second-row sun shades, three-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a seven-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
EX-L Navi gains an acoustic windshield, front and rear parking sensors, a power tailgate, a third-row power outlet, navigation, a power front passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, and leather seating. This is the only Odyssey trim without rear-seat entertainment.
EX-L Res is essentially the same as EX-L Navi, but without the navigation system.
Finally, Touring brings 19-inch wheels, acoustic door glass, power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, a hands-free tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, ambient cabin lighting, a CabinWatch rear-seat monitor, third-row sun shades, wireless smartphone charging, and ventilated front seats.
Odyssey’s EX-Res, EX-L Navi and EX-L Res models come with a suite of active driver safety assists comprising forward collision detection with automatic braking, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, the LaneWatch blind spot camera display, and lane keeping assist. Touring trim adds a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, which replaces the LaneWatch system.
Fuel Economy
Honda’s fuel consumption estimates for the Odyssey are 12.2/8.5 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
Honda’s competition for the Odyssey includes the Chrysler Grand Caravan and Pacifica, and the Toyota Sienna. Kia remains in the minivan segment, but with a new model for 2022 called the Carnival, which replaces the Sedona.
