History/Overview
Originally positioned at its 2003 arrival to compete at the high end of the mainstream mid-size class, the Murano range has more recently expanded with the addition of lower-priced trims.
For 2020, the Murano is carried over with no major changes following a 2019 refresh.
Available Trims
Nissan sells the Murano in S, SV, SL and Platinum trims. All share a 3.5L V6 engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). S is a front-driver, and all others get standard AWD.
Standard Features
Murano S standard exterior features are 18-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, roof rails, heated side mirrors, and chrome door handles.
Inside, there's an 8.0-inch infotainment display, a 7.0-inch drive assist screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, passive keyless entry, tilt-and-telescopic steering, lighted vanity mirrors, heated front seats with manual adjustments (six-way driver and four-way passenger), and cloth upholstery. Entertainment features include a six-speaker stereo with CD player, satellite radio, and front and rear USB inputs.
Standard safety and driver assist items are intelligent driver alertness, rear door alert, and forward collision warning with automatic braking.
SV trim adds a panoramic sunroof, hands-free power tailgate, 360-degree exterior camera views, radar cruise control, remote engine start, an eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar, a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a leather-trimmed shift lever. Murano SV also brings Nissan's full suite of advanced safety and driver-assist items: pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning with lane intervention, traffic sign recognition, rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams.
Murano SL brings 20-inch wheels, fog lights, silver roof rails, navigation, a garage door opener, driver seat memory, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient interior lighting, a power front passenger seat, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, an 11-speaker stereo, and front parking sensors.
Finally, Platinum models gain a power-adjustable steering column with memory, ventilated front seats, quilted leather seating, and dark wood trim.
Fuel Economy
Nissan's fuel consumption estimates for FWD Murano models are 11.7/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway); AWD versions are rated 11.7/8.5 L/100 km.
Competition
Nissan Murano competitors include the Honda Passport, the Ford Edge, Hyundai's Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento, Chevrolet's Blazer, the Subaru Outback, Mazda's CX-9, and the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.
