History/Overview
The Toyota Camry has been a mainstay of the family sedan market since about 1980, following which it quickly developed a reputation for near-infallible reliability. A 2018 redesign moved the Camry into its eighth generation.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, the Camry gains its first-ever TRD (Toyota Racing Development) variant, which Toyota says boasts track-inspired handling upgrades.
All Camry trims now come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and there's a new Nightshade Edition package.
Available Trims
Toyota offers the Camry with gasoline and hybrid powertrains. Gas versions come in LE, SE, XSE and XLE trims, while Camry Hybrid comes in LE, SE and XLE trims.
Gas LE, SE, XSE and XLE use a 2.5L four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. XSE and XLE can be optioned with a 3.5L V6.
Camry Hybrid pairs the four-cylinder with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission.
Standard Features
Camry LE comes with automatic high beams, forward pedestrian and collision detection with automatic braking, radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, a six-speaker stereo with 7.0-inch touchscreen, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, LED headlights and taillights, variable intermittent wipers, heated side mirrors, manual front seat adjustments, heated front seats, tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a 4.2-inch information display, and air conditioning.
SE trim adds tire pressure monitoring, paddle shifters, a sport-tuned suspension, an eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar, leather-trimmed steering wheel, automatic climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler and sport exterior trim.
XSE loses the tire pressure monitoring system, but gains remote engine start, wireless smartphone charging, passive keyless entry, garage door opener, blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert, satellite radio, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, electric parking brake, three drive modes, a six-way power front passenger seat, leather upholstery, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 7.0-inch info display, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, 19-inch wheels, upgraded LED exterior lighting and a panoramic sunroof.
XLE reverts to 18-inch wheels and brings navigation, JBL sound system with nine speakers and LED daytime running lights.

SE exclusives include sport seats in cloth and leather, paddle shifters, sport-tuned suspension, rear spoiler and sport fascia and grille.
XLE Hybrid additions are clearance sonar, rear cross traffic braking, a bird's-eye view monitor, navigation, nine-speaker sound system, a six-way power driver's seat, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 7.0-inch info display, head-up display, leather door trim, and premium LED exterior lighting.
Key Options
Toyota will let you option gas-powered LE and SE trims with upscale niceties from posher Camry trims.
The new TRD option is available on XSE V6 trim, where its performance-oriented additions are a sport-tuned suspension, sport seats and TRD body add-ons. Be aware that it is otherwise equipped more like the SE model than the XSE.
Fuel Economy
Toyota's fuel consumption estimates are 8.5/6.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for LE and SE, 8.6/6.3 in XSE and XLE trims and 10.7/7.4 for XSE and XLE V6.
Camry Hybrid ratings are 4.9/4.8 L/100 km for LE trim, and 5.3/5.0 in SE and XLE form.

Toyota's key competitors here are the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Mazda6, Chevrolet Malibu, Volkswagen Passat, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, and Subaru Legacy.
